Chantemode choir announce June concerts

A Dordogne choir is to perform the work of Welsh composer Karl Jenkins (pictured) for the first time in France later this month at two special concerts in Mussidan and Villamblard.

Professional musicians and soloists from the Chantemonde group will present seven of the 12 movements from Jenkins’ 2008 Stabat Matar, which he wrote following a request from Prince Charles.

With his emotive music and the use of different languages, using the original texts of psalms in Latin, Hebrew, English and even Aramaic, it promises to be a moving experience.

The first performance will be on Saturday, June 18 from 21.00 at St Georges church in Mussidan. This will be followed by a second concert at the church in Villamblard on Sunday, June 19 at 16.00.

Both concerts will start with a “Mass of Light” based on Gregorian themes, with a modern touch. The choir will also be performing a series of songs from around the world, sung a cappella.
